Terms of Service

These terms are a legal agreement between you and Paperclip Marketplace Ltd (company number 15632925, registered at 1 Dukes Lane, Brighton, UK). By using Lore, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.

We may update these terms from time to time. For minor changes (like clarifications or typo fixes), we’ll update the “Last updated” date and your continued use means you accept the changes. For significant changes (like pricing, data practices, or liability terms), we’ll notify you in the app and ask you to accept before continuing.

What Lore Is

Lore is a location-based app that uses AI to explore the history of any place. You can explore your current location, photograph specific buildings, drop pins anywhere in the world, listen to AI-generated audio tours, watch time-lapse videos, and share discoveries with the community.


Important: All historical content is generated by artificial intelligence. It is for educational and entertainment purposes. It may contain inaccuracies. More on this below.

Who Can Use Lore

Anyone can use Lore in guest mode. To create an account, you must be at least 16 or have parental/guardian consent. By creating an account, you confirm you meet this requirement.

Your Account

You can sign in with Google or Apple. You’re responsible for keeping your account secure and for everything that happens under it.


Guest users get local-only storage with no cloud sync or community features.


You can delete your account any time from Settings or by emailing hello@paperclip.co. We handle your data as described in our Privacy Policy.


We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or harm other users.

Subscriptions and Payments

Browsing community content is free. Creating explorations and generating AI content requires a paid subscription.


We offer several subscription tiers. Pricing is shown in the app at purchase time.


Payments are processed entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We never see or store your payment details. Subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel through your Apple or Google account settings before the renewal date.


Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their policies. We don’t process refunds directly.

Content You Create

You own what you create. But by sharing content publicly on Lore, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display, and distribute that content within the app and for promoting Lore. This licence ends when you remove the content or delete your account, except for copies that have already been shared with or cached by other users.


Don’t share content that is:

  • Illegal, threatening, abusive, or harassing

  • Sexually explicit or promoting violence or hate

  • Infringing on someone else’s intellectual property

  • Deliberately false historical claims presented as fact

  • Spam or unsolicited promotion


We can remove any content that violates these rules, without prior notice.

AI-Generated Content

This is important. Please read it carefully.


Lore uses Google’s Gemini API and other AI services to generate historical text, images, audio narration, and video. This content is created by algorithms, not by historians.


We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any AI-generated content. It may contain factual errors, anachronisms, fabricated events, or other inaccuracies. AI-generated images are artistic interpretations, not historical photographs.


AI-generated content is provided strictly for educational and entertainment purposes. It should not be cited as a source, relied upon for academic work, or treated as authoritative historical reference. Always verify historical claims through independent sources.


We are not liable for any decisions, actions, or conclusions you draw from AI-generated content.

Intellectual Property

Lore and everything that makes it work — the design, code, branding, and features — belongs to Paperclip Marketplace Ltd. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app. That’s it.


You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, or redistribute any part of the app, use bots or scrapers, or attempt to access our systems without authorisation.

Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data. It’s a separate document and is incorporated into these terms by reference. You can find it in the app and on our website.

Location Services and Your Safety

Lore needs location access to work. Camera access is optional (Precise Mode only). You can manage both through your device settings.


Your safety is your responsibility. Do not use Lore while driving, cycling, or in any situation where distraction could be dangerous. Be aware of your surroundings. Some locations may be on private property or in areas with restricted access — always respect local laws and property rights.


We accept no responsibility for any injury, damage, trespass, or loss that occurs while you’re using the app.

Disclaimers

Lore is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.


We don’t guarantee that the app will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free. Lore depends on third-party AI services, internet connectivity, and GPS accuracy — all of which can fail for reasons outside our control.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:


  • We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of Lore.

  • We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from AI-generated content, including inaccurate information, offensive material, or content that causes distress.

  • Our total liability for all claims related to Lore is limited to the amount you’ve paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or £50, whichever is greater.


Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law. If you’re a consumer in a jurisdiction that doesn’t allow certain exclusions, some of the above may not apply to you, and your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Third-Party Services

Lore integrates with services from Google, Apple, Fal.ai, Supabase, RevenueCat, Mixpanel, and Sentry. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We’re not responsible for how third parties handle your data beyond our contractual requirements.

App Store Terms

If you downloaded Lore from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you acknowledge that:


  • These terms are between you and Paperclip Marketplace Ltd, not Apple or Google.

  • Apple and Google have no obligation to provide support or maintenance for Lore.

  • Apple and Google are not responsible for any claims relating to Lore.

  • Apple Inc. and Google LLC are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the English courts.


If you’re a consumer, this doesn’t affect any mandatory consumer protection rights you have under the laws of your country of residence. If your local law gives you stronger protections, those protections still apply.


EU residents may use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform. UK residents may use equivalent UK dispute resolution mechanisms.

General

Entire agreement: These terms plus our Privacy Policy are the complete agreement between us.


  • Severability: If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.

  • No waiver: If we don’t enforce a right, it doesn’t mean we’ve given it up.

  • Assignment: You can’t transfer your rights under these terms. We can.

  • Force majeure: We’re not liable for failures caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, pandemics, internet outages, or third-party service failures.
